Ganesha Chaturthi also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi always coincides with the 4th Moon that follows the new Moon. This day has special powers to remove stubborn karmic blocks in the areas of finance, career, relationship and health. If you have tried everything to improve a certain area of life, and yet you have encountered a strong defiance, Ganesha can remove such obstacles on Ganesha Chaturthi. This divine elephant-headed God has special powers that permit him to see the negative/evil influences that may arise and prevent those impacts. He could be considered as the most appealing form of all Hindu Gods and His birthday is the most auspicious day to appease him.

Significance of Ganesha Chaturthi

The significance of Ganesh Chaturthi lies in the way in which people attach themselves with all their devotion and faith to the care of the all-embracing Lord Vinayakaor Lord Ganesha. It is believed that “Lord Ganesha always comes to eradicate the negative energy in every period and every age” and on Vinayaka Chaturthi he remains on the earth plane to bless all his devotees. Lord Ganesha is considered as an accessible God who is very special to humans. Being a secondary God not elevated to the highest level like Lord Shiva or Lord Vishnu, He is very close to the human beings. The advantage is that the Elephant God understands human problems quickly and clears the potential blocks or obstacles way ahead of us. He is truly the “God of the People”!

Legend behind the Birth of Lord Ganesha

Parvati Devi, the consort of Lord Shiva, wanted to have a son and She created a baby boy out of the dusty layers of her body and named him Ganesha. The boy followed His Mother wherever she went and guarded Her always. One day, the young Ganesha was guarding Her bathing chamber as usual, while Parvati was having bath. During this time, Lord Shiva came in with His Ganas and insisted in entering the complex. But Ganesha adamantly refused to allow him in. Lord Shiva got extremely angry asked His Ganas to kill the boy, unaware of who He was. But to Lord Shiva’s surprise, the boy overpowered all the Shiva ganas and the extremely infuriated Shiva cut off the boy’s head with His Trishul. When Parvati came out, she saw the body of her beheaded son and became sad and angry. Meanwhile, Shiva understood that the boy was His son and assigned his Ganas to bring the head of any living being which they first met laying in the northern direction. The Ganas brought the head of an Elephant and the Trimurthi(Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma) worked to bring back Ganesha’s life. Lord Shiva accepted him as his son and made him The Lord of His Ganas thus making his name Ganesha truly meaningful. He was also given another name as GanaNayaka. The Divine Couple blessed the Elephant Head boy that He would be treated and worshipped as any other deity. No worship will be fruitful unless and until, the prayer begins with Lord Ganesha. This was the Boon Given to Him by His Divine Parents. Ganesha Purana considers Lord Ganesha to be one of the unrefined forms of the ultimate Brahman. One can find His shrine immediately after the entrance in any temple complex. This symbolizes His importance as a guard or protector. Humans can relate to Him so easily and get their desires fulfilled. He rules over the Muladhara Chakra, the lowest or primal energy centre in Human body that controls our sense of stability and security in this life. Lord Ganesha helps us to get our footing, stand our ground and find our strengths. He is easily contactable and is called Kshipraprasadhi – one who blesses instantly.

Various Incarnations of Lord Ganesha

The Kridakhanda of the GaneshaPuranas narrates the stories of four incarnations of Ganesha in the four different Yugas.
  • In the Kritayug, He was born to Sage Kashyap and his wife Aditi. He had ten arms and had a red complexion and mounted an elephant or a lion. He was called by name MahotkataVinayaka.
  • In the Treta Yuga, He was referred to as Mayureshwara, since he mounted a mayur or peacock. He had six arms and His complexion was white.
  • In the Dwapara Yuga, he was called Gajanana, one with an elephant head. He had four arms, white in complexion, and mounted a mouse.
  • In the Kali Yuga, He incarnates as a Human faced Deity, and is referred by the name NaramugaVinayaka meaning Human faced Vinayaka. It is said that He takes this incarnation to relate more closely with the humans, since their connectivity with the Divine is least during this time frame.
  • Lord Ganesha Removes Negative Influences

The coconut energetically absorbs your lower vibrations and when it is smashed, the energy holding back your progress is forcefully disseminated. Clay Ganesha

For Ganesha Chaturthi, clay idols of Lord Ganesha are made in large numbers or varying sizes, for the purpose of sacrificing. Clay Ganesha is the center of a powerful transformation ritual as the statue has the ability to absorb your karma into the clay medium. During the 3 days of prayer and pooja to the clay statue on your behalf, the Vedic Specialists, the priests, recite chants and invocations from the Vedas to bring life into the statue and guide the transference of your karma to the effigy. The day after the completion of the Ganesha Chaturthi rituals, all the clay Ganeshas will be submerged and dissolved in the Coromandel Sea. As the clay image disintegrates, your karma is dissolved. It is a very effective ritual sometimes referred to as sympathetic magic. You can also sponsor clay Ganeshas and He will be named after you like Harry Ganesha, James Ganesha, Ravi Ganesha or Sophie Ganesha. Ganesha sacrifices Himself to redeem your karmas.
