2017 Govardhan Puja, Annakut Puja Date and Time
Govardhan Puja is also well-known as the Annakut puja meaning a pile of grains. Govardhan Puja is celebrated to remember the lifting of Mount Govardhan by Lord Krishna. According to a legend in Vishnu Puran, previous to Lord Krishna was born, Lord Indra, the deity of rain, was the chief god of Vraj. Lord Krishna instigated the people to stop worshiping Indra. Indra wanted to show his power over Krishna so he brought about a cloud-burst which flooded the area for various days. People were frightened that the downpour was an effect of Lord Indra's wrath. That was when Krishna came onward and lifted Mount Govardhan as an umbrella on the little finger of his right hand so that every person could take shelter from the rain. It’s since of this happening that he got the epithet Govardhandhari.source : http://www.festivalsofindia.in/ In 2017, Govardhan Puja or Annakut Puja will be celebrated on October 20 (Friday).2017 Govardhan Puja Muhurat
